Grateful Fred's: Americana & Roots Music

Grateful Fred's have been pioneering Americana and Roots music in Formby, Southport and Liverpool since 2010 and during that time have presented some of the best US, Canadian and World artists.

On the first Wednesday of every month, join the Fredhead's at The Atkinson for a wonderful night of live acoustic music.

The Club Night
7.30pm – The Huers
8.00pm – Jim Pearson
8.40pm – Interval
9.00pm – Robert Vincent
Robert Vincent

Grateful Fred is delighted to welcome back one of Americana's rising stars, Rob Vincent, who first performed for the "Fredheads" well before the lockdown. Since that first performance, Rob's profile has risen and risen.

It was the start of 2020 when Robert's third LP, the critically acclaimed "In This Town You're Owned", was released by Thirty Tigers and walked straight into a worldwide pandemic. Despite stalled promotional plans and tours, the record resonated enough to win the Americana Music Association UK's 'Album Of The Year' award for 2021. Receiving critical acclaim, the record also charted at number 2 in the UK Americana Charts and American Songwriter Magazine named 'In this Town You're Owned' in its top 20 albums (every genre) of 2020. "I had to try to take the positives as an artist' Robert says when recalling the experience of lockdown. "I hadn't had any time off from performing in many years and that gave me a bit of a reset…but I'm now looking ahead to a successful year and excited to be playing new songs to people".

It was Vincent's powerful and soulful voice that attracted acolytes such as Bob Harris, Paul Carrack and Mary Chapin Carpenter. In 2016, Harris awarded Robert with his "Emerging Artist of the Year" award at the inaugural UK Americana Awards show describing Vincent as "absolutely magnetic" and "the real deal". In 2018 following the release of 'I'll Make The Most Of My Sins' (AMAUK Album of The Year 2018) Robert was invited to perform on the BBC "Old Grey Whistle Test's For One Night Only' closing the show. It was this performance that would propel him to number 1 and 2 in the iTunes Album and Singles Charts.

It will be great to welcome Rob back to Grateful Fred's.
Jim Pearson

Grateful Fred issues another "welcome back" to Jim Pearson, who has performed twice before and each time has gotten better and better.

Jim is a wonderful singer-songwriter and one of Grateful Fred's personal favourites.

Jim's songs range from the whimsical to some of the most bitter and sombre themes, yet always with a paradoxical childlike spirit that meets them head-on, wide-eyed and full of hopeful energy.

Jim is admired and promoted by such notable music figures as renowned songwriter and BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Tom Robinson, who says of Jim, "You never can be sure what kind of project Jim will come up with next, but you can always be sure it's gonna be pretty darn good."

If you go to Spotify and search for Jim Pearson you will find a whole host of Jim's songs. I really recommend them.

Jim is also an author and at his last appearance at Grateful Fred's sold out his entire stock of his books. So we've reminded him to bring enough with him this time.

Opening the show will be:

The Huers

The Huers are an acoustic duo based in the North West of England, comprising of Phil Caffrey and Ian Cleverdon. They are known for their varied acoustic arrangements and tight vocal harmonies.

Formed in 2009, they not only write their own thought-provoking songs but also put their own musical stamp on songs by other artists. They have toured around the UK as acoustic demonstrators of Bose portable PA systems at national guitar shows and events, and have also supported several well-known touring acts, including Grateful Fred favourites Brooks Williams and Boo Hewerdine.

Outside of their 'Huering', Ian is a concert promoter of Karona Sessions and media producer, responsible for the successful podcast series, Half Hour Mentor, and Phil runs his own guitar tutorial YouTube channel.
